Peter Halsey Cook, AIA, is the owner and principal architect of the firm. As a
descendant of the Cook, Halsey, and Ludlow families, Peter’s has roots that
extend over 350 years deep in Hampton’s history.
I
grew up in a New Jersey suburb where I was deeply influenced by the “shingle
style architecture” of the late 19th century that was prominent in my
community. Further influence came through an apprenticeship in the “Colonial
Williamsburg” graphics arts department, where I developed a great appreciation
for the architecture and gardens of Colonial America.
From 1978 through 1980, my summers were spent, first as a carpenter, then as a
designer for Bridgehampton builder William G. Thompson, where I got my first
taste of wood frame construction and design. I believe these summers were the
greatest influence in my decision to pursue the field of architecture as a
career. I gained infinite insight into the process, materials and methods of
residential construction on the East End, and practical experience in the
building of homes. My first foray into design, involved the layout and design of
a 30 (colonial) home subdivision with Bill Thompson that stand proud today as
“Bullhead Village” in Bridgehampton.
In
1982, immediately following my graduation from The School of Architecture at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, NY, I moved to the Hamptons to begin
an apprenticeship under the highly respected “Hampton’s Architect” Eugene L.
Futterman Architect. I enjoyed a proud, fruitful, and educational relationship
with Gene until his all to sudden passing in 1987. With the knowledge and
confidence I developed under the tutelage of Gene Futterman (in the art of
architecture as well as the art of living) I established
“Peter Cook
AIA,
Architect”
in 1987.
Over the past (almost 20) years, I have enjoyed a consistently busy professional
schedule, working on a multitude of fascinating and privileged projects with an
equal number of exciting clients and friends.
“Peter Cook AIA, Architect”
has successfully completed over 200 major homes and renovations throughout the
Hampton’s, Long Island, Manhattan, and Arizona.
I
have a great team of architects and designers that work with me in my office,
and who deserve to share an equal amount of credit for the high quality, and
diverse work we have become know for. In fact, I am proud to say, that much of
my current competition in the “Hampton’s’ architectural community, cut their
“architectural teeth” at Peter Cook AIA, Architect!
I
have been licensed to practice in the State of New York since 1987; I enjoy
proud membership in The American Institute of Architects, and New York State
Association of Architects.
I hope you will allow me and my team to bring YOUR VISION, TO FRUITION!
